The Philanthropy Initiative’s Power of Giving Symposium
The National Museum of American History’s Power of Giving brings historic perspectives to contemporary issues in philanthropy. The series explores how Americans’ gifts of time, expertise, and resources have effected change throughout our complex history. Launched in 2015, the symposium is part of the museum’s Philanthropy Initiative, dedicated to researching, collecting, and displaying content related to the history of American giving.
2026 SYMPOSIUM The Power of Giving is one of the Smithsonian’s signature events commemorating the nation’s Semiquincentennial. The September 23, 2026, symposium will convene philanthropy sector thought leaders with Smithsonian curators and historians to discuss the history and impact of 250 years of American philanthropy.
